Ghosts of Appalachia Trailer

The Appalachian mountains are older than the Himalayas, and are an American treasure rich in biodiversity. In the form of coal, these mountains supply 35% of our nation's electricity, the consumption of which is expected to double by 2030.  The feature length documentary film Ghosts of Appalachia delves into the phenomenon of these mountains' richness in resources to explore the complexities of mining in the Appalachian region.

Ghosts of Appalachia follows a community in Eastern Kentucky as their landscape begins to change dramatically through mining. Through these rich human stories, we learn about the "chain of power": where it comes from, and how it impacts Appalachian economies, communities, and histories. At at time when affecting a human life can be as easy as flipping a light switch, is it only our ability to consume that connects us?
